Seems like a rig with a 1000W PS and a monitor would draw about 10 amps.

    1000/120 = 8 plus 2 for a monitor.

Does that seem in the ballpark and is that 10 amp draw constant?

Trying to figure out if I have enough juice in my circuit to support 2 computers.

well i have a 500 watt power supply that provides something like 50 amps on the 12 and the 8800 draws 26 i think
so i believe it will draw 26+ whatever it is for all the other parts
i dont know how you got 10 amps.

about the two computers though, that depends on how much the circuit is rated for, go check in the circuit box outside.

No it doesnot work that way.
Your PS may be capable of outputting 1000 watts DC but to do that it will draw about 20% more from the line if it was 80% efficient. So around 1200 watts AC from the wall.
However it will only draw what is needed by the PC at the time.
Your PC is only going to pull around 400 watts from the PS under a full load gaming, 480 to 500watts AC from the wall so yes you are probably alright on a 15 amp breaker/120VAC line.

You can always go to the box to check if the breaker is warm or buzzing if so you know you are probably stressing it or you have an old breaker that you should replace.

Just checked my UPS and it is drawing about 330W.....so pretty low amps as well.

  5. According to my APC RS1500 LCD, my system (not exactly 'high-end') as listed plus an HP J5780 printer, D-Link DGL-4100 router, and a cable modem; ~430 Watts idle.
  6. I would not trust the watt meter thats built into any UPS supply to be accurate. The best way to measure is with a wattmeter on the AC supply line. Then allow for the efficiency of the PS to get a good idea of what the PS is suppling the system in DC watts.

Here is a 8800GTX and SLI review with power consumption

  7. From reading the link you posted, and comparing the setup Hilbert was testing to mine, it appears my wattmeter is probably fairly accurate.

However, I will get out the Fluke and test the amperage draw to see what I am actually using.

  8. I think your numbers are so far more accurate than labsharks. The reason I posted that is becase labshark says 330 for two GTX cards and you have 430 for one card albeit over clocked at idle. Hilberts meter say 475watts AC for sli under full gamming load. The gtx will pull about 135 to 140 watts DC each under load but only 70 watts DC each idle in 2d. The cpu will also pull about double under a big load.
So with that in mind check yours out in idle and under load.
